Nintendo NES Final Fantasy Complete In Box

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

This is an amazing find. Final Fantasy for the Nintendo NES complete in the box (CIB). All the maps, instruction manual, warranty card and even the little foam insert are inside the box.

Here is the front of the box:

Here is the back of the box:

NES Final Fantasy Back

I’ve owned the Final Fantasy game cartridge since I was a little kid, however I didn’t have the box and all the other goodies it originally came with… until now :)

My current copy of the game is in really nice shape, but the one inside this box is mint perfect. I’ve never seen a label so shiny before in a used game and I have some really clean games.

If you recall, Final Fantasy is listed in my Top 10 NES games. I really enjoy this game.

Granted, the graphics are nothing compared to modern RPG’s but Final Fantasy is the game that started it all and besides, I like the classics and if you’re reading this post, so do you.

I’ll post more pictures showing the maps, the minty fresh label, even the foam insert in the coming days.

I plan on doing a full review of the game, I just need to brush up on the game a little bit first.

Box Of Atari 2600 Cartridges

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

This evening I’ve been working on organizing some of my Atari 2600 cartridges:

Atari 2600 Cartridges

Old shoe boxes sure do make for great vintage Atari 2600 game storage.

I still have a lot of games to go through and clean. 30 years of muck doesn’t allow for good game play :)

I think sometime tomorrow I’ll review Activision’s Pitfall, River Raid or maybe Kaboom! I’m not sure yet.

Classic Atari 2600 Games

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Earlier this morning I posted about the Atari 2600 VCS (Video Computer System) and that I’d be starting to post about the hardware, hacks, game reviews, photos and much more.

Well this evening I broke out a big bag (out of many bags) that hold classic Atari 2600 cartridges, a couple instruction manuals and took the following picture:

Atari 2600 Games

In the above photograph, you will probably notice a few titles that were later released on systems like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo (SNES), etc.

Some of the game titles in this display of classic games: Jungle Hunt, Pitfall, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, River Raid, Joust, Yars’ Revenge, Video Pinball and a lot more.

A little nugget of Atari 2600 gaming trivia: Space Invaders for the 2600 was the first home license of a coin-op video game.

As promised, in the coming days I’ll be doing some playing and reviewing of these classic games. Stay tuned.

In closing, if any of my readers have an Atari 2600, use to own one, or know someone who owns one, etc., let me know as it would be great to get some good conversations going about this vintage gaming console.

Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

Retro Atari 2600 Content Coming Soon

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I’ve got some really great retro gaming news to share with the Recycled Gaming community… in the coming days I’ll start to have all sorts of Atari 2600 console information, game reviews, hardware hacks, etc.

Thanks to a family member, a few local thrift stores, garage sales and my storage unit, I’ve blown the dust off a 100% working Atari 2600, complete with working joysticks, paddles and games.

Here’s a little sneak peak of the Atari 2600 game titles I’ll be playing and reviewing in the next few days:

  • Wizard of Wor
  • Combat
  • Pac-Man
  • Space Invaders
  • Missile Command
  • Moon Patrol
  • Outlaw
  • Adventure

I’ve got a ton more titles to play and review, however like I said, this is just a sneak peak post.

Before you ask, indeed actual Atari 2600 console system and cartridge pictures are coming soon as well.

Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

History of Video Games (1972-2007)

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

The Recycled Gaming website is about the classics… basically video games and console systems that came out around the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s for the most part.

However, my gaming roots go back much further. As of this post, I’m 36 years old and started gaming at a very early age. My first system was the Atari 2600.

Anyway, this evening I was poking around YouTube and came across this 2 minute and 26 second video that covers video games from early 1972 to late 2007.

As you can see from watching this video, there is a ton of classic video game history covered. Systems like the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis and plenty more.

Even PC gaming is covered. Most would freak out about that but games like Wolfenstein 3D, King’s Quest, Quake and Battle Chess are the roots behind games like GoldenEye 007, Super Smash Brothers and the entire Mario franchise.

I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I did. I love the classics and if you’re reading this, I’m sure you do too. Thanks for stopping by and please come back soon.

Top 10 Nintendo NES Games

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

The NES has a ton of classic games, and this list only covers my top 10 favorites, and in no particular order.

Whether or not you agree with this list is a different story! If there is a game you think should have made this list, let me know in the comments.

Megaman II

The second game in the popular series from Capcom, Megaman II had the coolest robots (Airman, Metalman and Quickman… later games had stranger robots like Pharoahman, Dustman and Topman) and the best music in the series (Bubbleman, Woodman and Dr. Wily stages). Megaman didn’t have Rush or the chargeable buster, but the simple gameplay made it worth it.

Contra

Contra’s fast-paced shoot-em-up gameplay makes it addictive. While Konami can have some hit and miss NES games, Contra was one of their better attempts. Best played with a friend, and of course don’t forget the code for 30 lives (which you can also use in Life Force)! (more…)

Super Nintendo: Mr. Do!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Like most normal people, I’ve always been terrified of clowns. The main character in Mr. Do is a clown, and on the box cover he looks like one of those evil clowns that hide under your bed with a knife!

SNES Mr. Do! Box

After summoning enough courage to review this game, I found Mr. Do to be pretty good after all.

This game originally appeared in 1982 as a fast-moving Dig Dug clone. To its credit, it does have some original elements.

Instead of inflating monsters, you destroy them with a magic ball that bounces around the maze until it hits something.

SNES Mr. Do!

Instead of having to eliminate all of the monsters, stages are cleared by collecting all of the fruit, giving the game a Pac-man flavor.

Mr. Do’s graphics are colorful and vibrant, but I could barely tolerate its circus-style music. A fun head-to-head two player mode is also included.

Just be sure not to leave this game on overnight, or the clown could potentially escape from the television screen and kill you in your sleep. That’s just common sense.

N64 Super Smash Bros. TV Commercial

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Somethings gone wrong in the happy go lucky world of Nintendo…

Introducing Super Smash Brothers, where all your favorite characters go toe to toe, in one four player star studded slam fest…

Only on Nintendo 64:

This game is so awesome and is currently in my top 10 games for the N64, especially for multi-player gaming action.

In the coming days I’ll have a full review of the game, so keep checking back.

NES - Mega Man 2

Friday, March 14th, 2008

This sequel expands upon the first game in every way imaginable, and is arguably the best game in the series but before I get into the review, take a moment (1:33) and check out this video of the Mega Man 2 intro:

Mega Man 2 (MM2) kicks off with a fancy intro that reveals Mega Man to be a robot, and the evil Dr. Wily has created eight robot villains for our hero to defeat.

The lineup includes Wood Man, Clash Man, Quick Man, Heat Man, Metal Man, Air Man, Flash Man, and Bubble Man.

MM2’s graphics and sound are far more sophisticated this time around. The stages are imaginative and multi-layered graphics, and your adversaries are larger and more interesting.

For example, the frog-like “Croaker” spits out smaller frogs, and the huge Hot Dog breathes fire. To aid him on his mission, Mega Man can use special items like levitation platforms, elevators, and even a flying sled.

The scoring’s been done away with, but that’s no big loss. Sega fans might noticed MM2’s uncanny resemblance to Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis). The traps, robotic enemies, and general style of play are incredibly similar.

My only reservations about this game concern the preponderance of “fatal falls”, thanks to high altitude platforms that your adversaries can easily knock you off of.

I much prefer the ground-based levels, but Mega Man 2 is still first class all the way.
