I Love The Power Glove. It’s So Bad

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The Nintendo Power Glove… this is one NES accessory that was never part of my collection as a kid, however a good friend of mine owns one.

I’ll have to see about taking it off his hands if he doesn’t want it anymore.

In the mean time, check out this clip from The Wizard (1989), starring Fred Savage:

This movie was a huge deal back in the day for promoting Nintendo as a brand and also the Super Nintendo (SNES).

I’m thinking this movie would be a good addition to my DVD collection. Time to check Amazon.com and eBay I suppose.

Legend of Zelda Medley in String Quartet Form

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Hey Nintendo fans, check out this amazing video I found while surfing around on YouTube:

Apparently this melody was put together for a Senior Cello Recital at James Madison University back in March 2006. I love how classical this medley sounds.

History of Video Games (1972-2007)

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

The Recycled Gaming website is about the classics… basically video games and console systems that came out around the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s for the most part.

However, my gaming roots go back much further. As of this post, I’m 36 years old and started gaming at a very early age. My first system was the Atari 2600.

Anyway, this evening I was poking around YouTube and came across this 2 minute and 26 second video that covers video games from early 1972 to late 2007.

As you can see from watching this video, there is a ton of classic video game history covered. Systems like the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis and plenty more.

Even PC gaming is covered. Most would freak out about that but games like Wolfenstein 3D, King’s Quest, Quake and Battle Chess are the roots behind games like GoldenEye 007, Super Smash Brothers and the entire Mario franchise.

I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I did. I love the classics and if you’re reading this, I’m sure you do too. Thanks for stopping by and please come back soon.

Little Mac Beats Mike Tyson In Round 1

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

One of my favorite NES games is Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. I could play this game for hours at a time and I recently broke out my Nintendo Cartridge to kick some butt.

I’m still working on being able to record my own game play to post but for now check out this video of Little Mac giving Mike Tyson a good beat down complete with a TKO in round 1:

Not sure if you caught it but at the beginning of the video is the pass key so you can jump right to the round where you get to fight Mike Tyson:

Little Mac is my hero… and now to go play more NES Punch Out because Mike Tyson is waiting for the challenge!!

1997 Nintendo 64 Promotional Video

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Here’s a great 14 minute, 47 second promotional video from 1997 showcasing the Nintendo 64 console. It also covers Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64 and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

Just for a small heads up, once you press play on the video, the Nintendo 64 logo will show up spinning for about 20 seconds, then the magic begins.

Now you’re playing with power!

Watching this video just reminds me how cool the Nintendo 64 was and still is for a classic gaming system.

In recent months I’ve really been enjoying my Nintendo 64 and blowing the dust off some of my games.

To really kick things up a notch, this coming weekend I’ve got some friends coming over and we’ve got a Super Smash Brothers tournament all planned out. It should be some good times for sure.

N64 Super Smash Bros. TV Commercial

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Somethings gone wrong in the happy go lucky world of Nintendo…

Introducing Super Smash Brothers, where all your favorite characters go toe to toe, in one four player star studded slam fest…

Only on Nintendo 64:

This game is so awesome and is currently in my top 10 games for the N64, especially for multi-player gaming action.

In the coming days I’ll have a full review of the game, so keep checking back.

NES - Mega Man 2

Friday, March 14th, 2008

This sequel expands upon the first game in every way imaginable, and is arguably the best game in the series but before I get into the review, take a moment (1:33) and check out this video of the Mega Man 2 intro:

Mega Man 2 (MM2) kicks off with a fancy intro that reveals Mega Man to be a robot, and the evil Dr. Wily has created eight robot villains for our hero to defeat.

The lineup includes Wood Man, Clash Man, Quick Man, Heat Man, Metal Man, Air Man, Flash Man, and Bubble Man.

MM2’s graphics and sound are far more sophisticated this time around. The stages are imaginative and multi-layered graphics, and your adversaries are larger and more interesting.

For example, the frog-like “Croaker” spits out smaller frogs, and the huge Hot Dog breathes fire. To aid him on his mission, Mega Man can use special items like levitation platforms, elevators, and even a flying sled.

The scoring’s been done away with, but that’s no big loss. Sega fans might noticed MM2’s uncanny resemblance to Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis). The traps, robotic enemies, and general style of play are incredibly similar.

My only reservations about this game concern the preponderance of “fatal falls”, thanks to high altitude platforms that your adversaries can easily knock you off of.

I much prefer the ground-based levels, but Mega Man 2 is still first class all the way.

Zelda Theme On Dual Guitars

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

A few weeks ago I posted a video of Zack Kim playing the Super Mario Bros. theme song on dual guitars.

In that post I had mentioned that Zack also did the Zelda Theme song too. Check it out:

This kid is awesome! I really enjoy watching him tap through these Nintendo classic theme songs.

Super Mario Theme On Dual Guitars

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Here is a video of Zack Kim playing the Super Mario Bros. theme song on dual guitars. This is completely awesome and worthy of a post on Recycled Gaming for sure.

Zack is a very talented guitarist and has done other classic game theme songs as well. In an upcoming post I’ll feature Zack performing the theme song for Nintendo’s Zelda. Stay tuned gamers.
